O.k.,
where are we now.
humanism
applied sociology
mormonism scientology
evangelical humanism.
Scientology definitely is my orientation.
Whoops, sociology is my orientation.
smelly shoes. - bring the cedar inserts for locker.
social entrepreneurship
conscious evolution
characteristics of renaissance society and cultural aliveness.
cultural vibrancy cultural vitality--
ryan's ideas about vitality.
so, in terms of my project what would I like to do?
vision, imagine.
a decidedly futurist orientation?
Inspire to action,
provide assistance to dreamers, part-time employ
If reason, take mindshare from mormons, scientologists, other religious.

controversy.
Just study the phenomena??? no!
What service can I provide for youth?
a vision of a new society and places for them in it.
conscious evolution cliche.
the mormon missionaries.
the krisha youth.
harnessing the social power which religions have been able to harness but for different aims.
What are the aims? to encourage, and protect a culture of dreamers.
Why does humanism fall flat? (to me)
We're going to talk about world views, how do you think the world works (project zero studies).
I need to determine if there is a problem- a worldview census....
testing the consciousness change.
Testing the effect and spread of various ideas.
need to define a goal.
Krisha youth: hi can I talk to you about
dreamster: can I talk to you about dreams, and about what you're doing now.
K: yes
d: wh
have you considered what would happen if you succeeded?
wouldn't you rather help people with this power?
we don't say no to the mystical, like the humanists, but encourage focus to :
what about all this new talk of 'spirituality' - have women bought it
hls? Is that the reason? I don't think men fall that way, but I don't
really know.
What is my vision that this different approach is important?
(1)The problem of the spread of behaviors which encourage beliefs which are difficult to accept.
Yet there is a need of a paradigm for people to place themselves
within, and to find direction, hope, other positive things from.
Atheism, secular humanism, seems tough.
What will the vision be then, and what will people's place within it be?
The vision is of a society with a strong improving orientation, which has a design accepting of improvement.
So then, a society with a strong group of experience scientists, with a strong evangelical and marketing aspect.
So there has to and must be a strong definition and orientation toward
identifying what is improvement and moving that direction.
What is radical honesty? What does grace llewellen think?
How can the experience science needs goals accomplishments be presented
in a compelling way, a way that draws people in to work on it, a way
that
basically, I'm feeling a lack of project for myself, assuming that
others would benefit from a compelling project, and attempting to
identify a compelling project for humanity.
Should get some help- advertise - loot, voice, craig's list.
attempting to advertise will require greater definition.
What is the dublin core? can it help me organize the endeavor?
L Ron Hubbard's bet- he was a master at something, for sure.
D: I have a project for you to work on which has many facets, among which you will find a place that will suit you.
This project is the improvement of your own experience, and the experience of the others around you.
How can that be done?
this is the process that needs definition.
Can I work within the humanist community?
and within the sociological community?
The process is
(1) considering aspects of one's own experience which could be improved.
[wherin lies artistic expression?]
(2) researching this problem, understanding possibilites and potential mechanisms for improvement
(3) developing and testing potential implementations of the improvement.
What are the prerequisites for this orientation?
A dedication to a project, an avoidance of escapism.
People who work with a 'religious' focus on the work? no...
1,2,3 are rather high-level and complicated. Can people be brought in young and of all intellects and orientations?
The religious mystical part of it is a love of experience and humanity,
and life and what it could become, and wanting these to become the
greatest they can become.
make no claims one way or the other about religions-- our measure will
be experience and ability to improve it. Calling quakers, humanists,
etc... which orientations and actions are demonstrated most effective
What if, a survey is done, regarding improvement, and everyone is
satisfied with how things are? unlikely. there will always be a realm
in which to focus on improvement. And then there is simply dreaming,
imagining greater and more awesome things and realizing them and
expressing them.
What are the characteristics of a dream
I can theorize with all of them, but my criteria is relevance to experience.
What are the characteristics of great dreams and visions? The ideas that shake us, move us, and excite us about life?
[check domain names, regarding expiry!!!!, com, net, org]
experiencescience.org/net experienceart.org/net]
The base of the practice are surveys/queries to ones self and a target population asking which improvements can be made.
Is there a synergy, an excitement, a way of life that will make people love this practice?
What is the draw?
There is no need for this to be everything to a person, but it should
be visible enough--- a clear technique for creating effective, valuable
self and other service projects.
The keys are the focus on experience, and the focus on self and other, not either, neglecting the other.
Will we stay in new york city, or go elsewhere there are dance classes and olympic pools?
I think I will confine my early efforts to areas offering easy access to large numbers of people.
So as problems are defined approached and interventions are attempted,
how will these efforts be documented and networked to offer the
greatest chance that others will find projects related to their
interests?
That is a good question.
Furthermore, what will my projects be?
My projects will be assessing the difficulty of orienting ones behavior.
I will do surveys of people in all areas and walks of life assessing a
need/desire for life project direction, a feeling of success and
accomplishment. I will attempt to develop interventions which reduce
the incidence of feelings of aimlessness/lack of life project/direction.
Assuming an opportunity for improvement in this area is determined,
[this would be determined by a certain percent of an identifiable
portion of the population wishing that they had greater definition of a
life project/direction/focus]
These people should not have gotten by with saying "everybody's trying
to figure out what they're going to do" - another indicator of the
problem.
I have started from nothing so that you don't have to. (not really)
For he gave his only begotten son so that you might be whatever that quote was.
Advance: we build on the problems that have already been solved.
US or Europe for the studies? see who's doing what where... see what
happens when you apply. What was that institute in Amsterdam?
This ... impinges on the tendency of people to dream freely.
education,
regulations,
healthcare linked to job,
what else,
and what else.
An aligning principle for one's life can make so many other decisions clear.
Why the dreaming society?
And would people dream if given the freedom and encouragement?
Are there population differences in dream and drive and why?
What is the end if we ever achieve it?
At what age do I need to start.
Rocket ship to woodshed no more.
Same symptom within disciplines. What can the discipline become?
What are the possible rewards for an achievement of success in this
area? [ryan, deci] I want to work within sociology and influence the
psychologists [I'm treating the population based on knowledge of the
individual].
For me, I love dreamers. I would encounter more of them. They make life
beautiful. They are not pushing a known, they are pushing a
possibility, an unknown, that is wonderful, powerful, and will forever
change the nature of our experience. [william rawls]
For the world, an atmosphere of optimism, hope, determination, drive, and direction.
[experiencescience, experienceart]
There will be a skatepark in central park.
What would be great, what would be wonderful, what would be amazing?
That is why I read the news.
Assuming a need is identified (I am assuming it will be),
What form could the interventions take?
The dreaming function of the cultural organism.
(growth definition)
what form could the interventions take?
The goal would be to create long lasting, preferably self-reinforcing change. With a strong growth rate.
Habermas - life world and system.. sensors.
What form could the interventions take?
An increasing amount of freedom in all areas of life necessary.
Strong political action. Strong force for freedom.
is there really a problem though? the extent of the problem.
What could lead to this amassing of force and draw for change?
(1) compelling, well-supported ideas, published and read by many on many levels.
(2) organizations which channel and organize the efforts of people to
free themselves for the dreaming/improving purpose. [time spent in
r&d]
Can a broad-based coalition work? Or does everything need to be owned? [open source relation]
[study of the process of dream and development of ideas, which are fulfilling/motivating to act on]
I will work on assessing the problem, while at the same time begin to
test interventions (of course some measure needs to be developed
beforehand]
A dreaming coalition? can this possibly appeal to religionists? quakers, yes,
to what extent are people capable and willing to dream independently
and from their develop directions for their lives? perhaps many if the
focus is directed toward quality of experience?
How motivating is this concept? Will it generate the political support
that can lead to greater freedoms? Will it generate the private support
necessary, allowing time for dreaming (time for r&d).
experiencescience???
dream
improving orientation.
Should I worry about domain names now?
probably, yes.
To do next:
research on defining the problem-- a big job, but without a supporting
literature, support for the idea (and definition of the idea in
comparison to other concepts and theories) will be difficult.
How can I begin this research? Consider examples of the social states
you wish to achieve, find examples in history, study those situations,
for a development of theory, extraction of constructs.
Look at cultural differences
Look at characteristics of dreamers
Work with your hunches on freedom?
Study the dreaming/life definition process more rocketship/woodshed phenomenon.
Look for other research data.
Huge.
In the meantime be checking out grad school (really? -yes, that looks
to be the way to go - the ideas and theoretical framework for this
movement need to be there), and current researchers in various
disciplines and in the private sector...
Where to start?
grad school search, and
theory backgrounder
and
private sector work.
Internet and library time.
Regarding the domain names?
---think about possibilities. The only one is experiencescience so far.
-----------------------
So then tomorrow, work with grad schools and soc theory? and private sector work? evenly divided timewise?
Reports on private sector work. Reports on grad school work, Reports onsoc theory as relating to the dream space of society?
What was that quote about ideas? scroll up-- he who can change the ideas in mans mind has effected the most lasting change?
sibl quotes.
and think about domain names.
it's 7:30 now, we should get home and leave the continuation for thursday.
Letters of rec: jerry, mstrasser, hsedgwick, bgillam?
need to email bill tuttle, mstrasser, contact englishes and such.
Need also to talk through this idea with someone else... who would be
interested in this area. See what gordon is up to. See what william is
up to. Bob, mgales, Johanna, Zhenia, Deanna Roth, Fran, Carla Rosal,
grandma ann, and so on and so on.
let's go.
