I started the OurCultureOurCapitol group. Below is the first description of the list.

This list was started to handle discussion about a possible unifying cultural vision/worldview. I credit Ishmael groups with creating the fertile ground for this type of questioning. I credit http://carfreecity.us for inspiring me to dream bigger than I had been. Send suggested revisions of this description to the list.

This group is for the discussion of our culture and our cultural capitol.

Our culture is defined by people creating experience they find beautiful.

Examples of our culture include the open source movement, the carfree cities movement, the ecovillage movement, appreciative inquiry, primitive skills movement, EarthFirst!ers and ?? the list is endless.

Participating in our culture involves ceasing to support things that are not of our culture.

I'm attempting to help foster the feeling that we're building a cathedral, not an office building.

People who build cathedrals (idealization alert--but I think you understand) live for their work- they can sleep on the ground, and eat little, work 12 hrs/day, but they love what they're doing, they love living. How can we make that feeling more common?

Daniel Quinn (author of _Providence_, and _Beyond Civilization_, and _My Ishmael_) calls for a new vision, not more programs.

There is _a lot_ we need _a lot_ of people to walk away from. There are a lot more people who could dream big.

I think that new vision is of a life loved living, combined with the realization that only I can know that I'm loving living.

You can never know how successful I am. (but you can guess!)

We need a strong culture and feeling of support for walking towards the beautiful experience that we are making, and away from what is not beautiful.

Especially when many of us are still living with much that is not beautiful.

If you were to construct a physical capitol for our culture, what would it be like?
