Meaning in life, measuring....

when one has framework and fulfillment,
they're not all that obvious

what would the difference be?
framework: rational understanding of what is important to me in life:

can you verbally state what is important to you in life?
I know what is important to me in life.....
I really love living....

I have a rational understanding of what is important to me in life.
I have an intuitive understanding of what is important to me in life.

I have a rational understanding of the meaning of my life.
I have a rational understanding of how I should live my life
I have a rational understanding of the meaning of all things in existence.

I have an understanding of what is important to me in life.
I have an understanding of the meaning of my life.
I have an understanding of how I want to live my life.
I have an understanding of the meaning of all things in existence.
I have a personal understanding of the experience of meaning.

I really love being alive.
I'm not all that enthusiastic about living.

what do I want to measure:

(1) enjoyment of being alive--vitality--so on:
   I really enjoy being alive.
   I wish I were not living.
   I love living.
   Living is a chore.
   There honestly isn't anything I want to do.
   and so on

(2) cosmic meaning:
   Why I am here is a mystery to me.
   I am at peace with my place in existence.
   I have an understanding of the meaning of all things.
   -- this is a tougher one. work with me on it.
   What is the significance of this variable???
   cosmic meaning and cosmic meaning fulfillment
   - cosmic meaning- being aware of the connection
   - cmf- feeling aware of the connection... a more spiritual sort of thing- I feel deeply connected with the world and even the universe around me.

(3) terrestrial meaning:
   I know how I want to live and I can live that way.
   terrestrial meaning and terrestrial meaning fulfillment
   I know how I want to live.
   I have been able to live the way I want to live.

Where has your mind been??
   mind paths... what have you thought about? Deep and wide. What have you wrapped yourself around?
   And does it matter- those who have wrapped more are not necessarily happier. They may be more individual... Is that right,
can I say a person is more individual than another?

What is the value of this individuality?
What is the value of cos meaning, terres meaning--- coping.-- psych wellbeing in the face of adversity.

so it's not then, individuality? Picasso may have not thought much about these things, but was pretty individual (intuitively I say this)

Individuality and drive.

Drive is an independent dimension.... we should not attribute all of this simply to meaning- eminence requires disatis faction with one's present state and drive to do something about it.

drive is not fulfillment- but fulfillment is probably not entirely independent of drive, but they seem to be different things. Fulfillment is a satisfaction, and an excitement.

What are these people going to be like in 50 years??

find people to do a further study with... mass internet mailing. relatively easily generate some large data sets.
validate a new questionnaire.

I don't want to think about this stuff any more.. I don't care. Let us get on with things.

I suppose later on I will have to say something about the design of another scale, and why the measurement of ful, cm, and tm are important.

They have to do with coping, that is easy enough...
but are they indicative of anything more... are they indicative of the 'strong, serene' person- the wise person... the person who knows how to live?

The person who knows how to live.... who is that person? George? I think so..

How do you measure a person's ability to live well?
-- how fulfilled they are- indicates some success, whether their own or their societies, or both

-the reiliency of that fulfillment in the face of difficulty.

What predicts that resiliency?... antonovsky... soc- manageability, meaningfulness, and comprehensibility

What are the characteristics of a successful terrestrial meaning?

but realize that the situation matters...
the successful terrestrial meaning (personal meaning system) needs to provide what is lacking in that person's environment... for example, george might not need to value place and family that much because they're not scarce... he may need to value growth experiences more... situationally -dependent hierarchy of sorts.

It seems, though, that the archetypal wise person would have an understanding of how the best way to act in many different situations would be. Of course I don't really know any wise people... do you?

I think george would be the wisest that I know at the moment.

Wise is also having the experience- of having experienced or thought about a lot of situations.

Wise is dif from specialized, but presumably the two are not mut exclusive.

Isn't that amasing, I don't know any wise people...

I know serene and content people, but I don't know about wise.

Wise would be also stimulating to interact with, thought stimulating, and feeling stim- gordon is wise in the feeling stim way.

so back to the point-
how to best measure the experience of meaning in life...

I really don't even want to approach this question. I admit, I'm wimping out...

or not, I am probably turning my efforts to where they will be most rewarding, which is not working on this question. I don't want to be able to say wise things, I want to be able to do wise things.

and I have a whole lot of feeling to go on, and need only to get on my way to expressing it before I spend more time thinking about it.

so then, back to the data. The importance of future orientation? Should be an important component of fulfillment. That's about it, all I was saying is that looking to the future is important.

How many programs do they have and how well do they work, especially. How content are they?
