Server ChangeLog

For background, visit j9k.com

access log report for this server

This server lives in Monterey, California, USA.

It's running over a PacBell PPPoe DSL connection, with a dynamic IP address. The IP has been changing less than once a day on average. If the connection to experienceartist.org times out, wait 10 - 20 minutes and try again. The IP address is updated with a script written in Python that is based on Bobby's ls_dyndns.py which is designed to work with DynDns.org.

The domain names experienceartist.com/org/net, expartist.com, and j9k.com are registered with TotalNIC.net. They are managed using ZoneEdit.com.

This box is an old Compaq Presario Pentium 133MHz with 32MB RAM. It's very slow compared to other 133s I have known. It's running OpenBSD 2.7, and Apache 1.3.12. It sits behind a Linksys BEFSR41 router/firewall. Currently only ports 80 (for the web server) and 22 (for OpenSSH service) should be open. Please let me know if you find any security holes.

I've been doing my web browsing, editing, and server configuration without using X-windows (or any other graphical environment). I use screen, lynx, Vim, and thanks to the colorization of code and text, this system can be fairly pleasant and pretty to work with. I still get annoyed with Vim, however.

I am considering using Zope to build this site.

FYI, j9k.com, expartist.com, experienceartist.com, experienceartist.net all point to this server as well as experienceartist.org. I usually type j9k.com to get here--later I may point it directly here instead of to its own virtual domain.

Comments and suggestions are welcome!

Completed transition from experienceartist.com to experienceartist.org. I decided .org made more sense and felt better for this kind of site. I don't think it will ever make (much) money. And it will probably be quite some time before it has features that might be able to attract a continuing user base (other than me of course :)

By the way, I'm currently working to set up the Zope experienceartist site, so much of my free time is going into that and not into musing about experience... First I intend to set up the capability for people to log in to and customize the site's appearance (colors and probably font), and to begin to publish/link to their own writings about experience.
