Constitution of being
Article 1- Name
The name of this organization is, "being."
Article 2- Purpose
The purpose of this group is to discuss and create experience.
A secondary purpose of this group is to increase the amount
of time people enjoy being alive. It is believed this can be accomplished
by encouraging individuals to actively and openly question what
is the best way to live.
Article 3- Membership
Members can present their own or others' creations at
meetings. These can be anything creative: ideas, scientific research,
musical/literary/visual art, meditational exercises, etc. Members'
work can be published in the quarterly journal of this group,
being.
The majority of the membership of this organization shall
consist of regularly enrolled undergraduate and graduate students
at the University of Washington. Only those members who are currently
registered University of Washington students have voting privileges.
Voting members are those students who present their creative
work at a meeting or contribute to the journal being, read
this constitution, and attend meetings when elections are held.
A copy of this constitution will be available on the group's web
page.
Article 4- Officers
There are at least five officers of this organization
(Officers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, ...) who jointly ensure the group continues
to exist. Duties are accepted as the officers decide is appropriate.
One officer needs to renew the group's registration before October
31 of each year.
Term of office is from the beginning of the quarter break
before the quarter for which the officer was elected to the end
of the quarter for which the officer was elected.
An officer can be removed by a majority vote of the voting
members six days after the voting members have been notified of
the impending vote. Notification consists of emailing those voting
members who have email addresses.
Article 5- Elections
Selection of officers for the following quarter shall
be held the last day of the current quarter before finals week
if a majority of the voting members present at that meeting choose
to have elections. If no elections are held, the current officers
will be the officers for the following quarter. Members will be
notified of this procedure before becoming a voting member when
they read this constitution.
Vacancies will be filled by registered University of Washington
students who are approved by at least one of the officers. Vacancies
will be filled until there are five officers.
Elections will be conducted by one of the officers. Voting
members will vote for all the candidates at the same time by silent
ballot. Each voting member will either vote or not vote for each
candidate. The candidates with the highest five amounts of votes
are the new officers.
Article 6- Meetings
Regular meetings of this group shall be held weekly. Members
will be notified of meeting dates and times by email or by the
weekly listing of meetings in the HUB.
A quorum shall consist of 50 percent of voting members
present at any regular or special meeting.
Article 7- Constitutional Amendments
This constitution may be amended by a vote of a majority
of the voting members at any regular or special meeting.
Voting members must be notified of the amendment a six
days before the vote on the amendment occurs.
